We built Particle because the world has enough productivity tools. What it lacks is a space where focused work feels like it means something.
The Problem
Somewhere along the way, we started treating our attention like a commodity. We optimized it. We tracked it. We gamified it. We turned every focused moment into a number on a dashboard.
The tools that promised to help us focus became the tools that made us feel guilty. Streaks that punish you for being human. Timers that count down like a bomb. Apps that celebrate quantity and ignore meaning.
We don't need another tool that optimizes our output. We need a space that honors our input.
What We Believe

The Space
Particle is not a productivity tool. It is a space.
A black screen with a white dot. Sound that exists to be forgotten. A timer that never interrupts your flow. No streaks. No guilt. No noise.
When you complete a focused session, we call it a particle. Not because it's small. Because it's fundamental. In physics, particles are the building blocks of matter. Your focused moments work the same way.

What we'll never build
The features we refuse to ship.
Streaks. Missing a day is not a failure. It’s a life.
Red badges. Urgency is a design choice. We choose calm.
Leaderboards. Your work is not a competition.
Loss notifications. “You’re falling behind” is a lie designed to create anxiety.
Guilt language. “You haven’t worked in 3 days” will never appear on your screen.
Dark patterns. We will never trick you into opening the app.
Social comparison. What someone else accomplished has nothing to do with your work.
Fake AI empathy. Particle will never say “I understand how you feel.” It doesn’t. It observes.
Our Promise
We build so you can build.
We will never add a feature that makes you feel guilty. We will never count what you didn't do. We will never sell your attention to someone else.
Every sound is tuned to disappear. Every pixel earns its place. Every decision is made with one question: does this help someone do the best work of their life?
